  • Somerset Ornithological Society The SOS web site, includes a message board with discussions on local bird sightings and  gives descriptions of  sites around the county of Somerset. Details of how to join the society can also be found here.

  • British Trust for Ornithology The BTO web site gives details of their work, research and surveys including the bird Ringing Programme.

  • The Fatbirder An invaluable resource which covers many aspects of birding and birds in Britain and worldwide. Links to many regional and personal birding sites can be found here in the Fatbirder Webring.

  • Portland Bird Observatory The local (!) bird observatory in the neighbouring county of Dorset. The site includes excellent photographs and daily updates of all wildlife, but predominantly birds on the Isle of Portland

  • Paul Bowyer's Bird Site The site of local birder Paul Bowyer which includes photos and sightings of birds on Brean Down, just north of Berrow.

  • James Packer's Bird Site The site of local birder James Packer which includes photos and video clips of birds.

  • Severnside Birds The excellent website of Paul Bowerman with up to date sightings and photographs from Severn Beach.

  • Sutton Bingham Reservoir  Tim Farr's site covering the birds and other wildlife of Sutton Bingham Reservoir on the Somerset-Dorset border.

  • Dawlish Warren  An excellent website covering everything to do with this wonderful south Devon site. It includes latest sightings and photographs.

  • Birding.UK.com A directory of birding links for the UK and Ireland.

  • Charliesbirdblog Charlie Moore's excellent Birdblogg which covers worldwide birding and conservation issues.

  • The Dean Birders   This project was the result of two keen birdwatchers getting together and wanting to share their hobby with those who have difficulty getting out and about.

  • Simply Birds and Moths   A similar website to ours covering Birds and Moths. This site is maintained by Tony Davison who is based in Derbyshire.

Moths/Insects

  • UK Moths The UK Moths photographic database provides an excellent resource for moth identification.

  • Moth traps The commercial site of Alana Ecology, a British-based supplier of scientific equipment, includes illustrations and descriptions of a variety of moth traps.

  • Migrant Moths The site of Steven Nash which focuses on the immigration of lepidoptera and includes lists of recent UK records submitted.

  • The Dorset Moth Group for the latest on moths in Dorset.

  • Glamorgan Moth Recording Group See what moths have been seen over the Bristol Channel in Glamorgan, Wales. Regular postings and updated county maps.

  • Slovenian Moths The site of David Slade, covering some sites and moths of Slovenia.

  • British Dragonfly Society  This site contains a checklist of all the British Dragonflies with photographs of all the species. Excellent for finding and identifying dragonflies.

Local Information

  • United Kingdom Hydrographic Office This site allows you to select a specific region and view high and low tide predictions and times for following week.

  • Burnham-on-Sea street map This map, courtesy of streetmap.com, pinpoints Burnham seafront and can be navigated to display the coastline covered by the Birds and Moths of Burnham-on-Sea website.

  • Burnham-on Sea This site is primarily a tourist guide to Burnham-on-Sea, but provides useful links covering a variety of local information.
